The TUT Team consists of students first year up to PhD level. This includes students from departments of Industrial Design, Marketing, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering and Electrical Engineering.

The North West University team has 23 team members. This includes four drivers and a range of senior students and staff of the engineering faculty. Skills include chemical, industrial, mechanical and electrical engineers and team members range from 22 to 60 years of age.

The solar car aims to enter in the 2022 Ilanga Cup with the adapted solar car used by TUT in the 2016 Sasol Solar Challenge.

The Ilanga Cup will be their first ever solar challenge.

The motivation for SolarFlair to participate in solar challenges, was sparked from a school project called the South African Electric Vehicle Challenge, which they run very successfully in Mbombela, Mpumalanga for the past nine years.

UniChamps Solar Car Team decided to participate in solar challenges to experiment with alternative energy concepts inorder to contribute towards efficient and sustainable transportation.
